Oregon State University’s quickly expanding international education program, INTO, required the quick design and renovation of an existing campus service building. We met this challenge by blending together the users, the building, and context to inform our architectural direction. We wanted the spaces to feel open, yet intimate to serve students from all over the globe.
Holst approached the project understanding that learning was constant throughout students’ time in the INTO program. Public spaces, such as the student lounge, lobby, and corridors were given as much attention as the traditional classroom environments. The space achieves the client’s programmatic and pedagogical requirements while eliciting a range of visually stimulating and calming environments where appropriate.
