Sustainability

The design emphasizes preserving and enhancing the natural environment surrounding the project. Mariposa Village is targeting Salmon Safe and Gold National Green Building Standard certifications, while the community building is anticipated to receive Energy Trust of Oregon’s Net Zero certification. An approximately .25-acre wetland, located near the central portion of the site, will remain untouched and unharmed. It will be incorporated into the larger park on the development and will be protected from construction activities.

Land Recognition

We have a responsibility to not only acknowledge but also elevate Native communities and their needs. This project sits in the area currently known as Hood River, near two traditional Wasco village sites. In 1855, the Wasco and other local tribes ceded about 10 million acres of land to the US government. Many of their descendants are now enrolled in the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

Educating ourselves is an important action. We encourage you to explore the stories of this community through Native-led resources like the Warm Springs Community Action Team website.

Affordable Homes, Lasting Impact

Hood River, Oregon, has boomed as a tourist destination and desirable place to live due to its proximity to outdoor recreational opportunities for over 20 years. However, the affordable housing stock in the area has not met the demand. Seeing the need for housing, Community Development Partners (CDP) and Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation (CCHC) are developing Mariposa Village, which will provide 130 units of affordable, community-focused housing, to alleviate an increasingly urgent affordable housing crisis in Hood River and its surrounding region.

A Holistic Approach to Housing

Mariposa Village incorporates CDP’s Community for All Ages model – a design and programming approach that promotes intergenerational connections and lifelong learning. The development aims to create a healthy, supportive place where people of all ages can live, work, play, and thrive. Four multifamily buildings will house 108 units that range from studios to three bedrooms, while two townhome buildings will each house 11 three-bedroom units. An on-site community building will provide residents with various amenities.

Community Hub

The on-site community building aims to foster connections among residents. It will serve as a hub for the project, with shared community spaces, a classroom/meeting space, and an outdoor patio.

Embracing the Landscape

The site embraces the surrounding natural environment, featuring a children’s play area, park, community gardens, walking trails, and green spaces.
