Land Recognition

We have a responsibility to not only acknowledge but also elevate Native communities and their needs. This project sits in the area currently known as Hood River, near two traditional Wasco village sites. In 1855, the Wasco and other local tribes ceded about 10 million acres of land to the US government. Many of their descendants are now enrolled in the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

Educating ourselves is an important action. We encourage you to explore the stories of this community through Native-led resources like the Warm Springs Community Action Team website.

Modern Meets Historic

Architecturally, 310 Oak Street Condos takes cues from its historic context and integrates them with contemporary design. Traditional materials of brick and wood complement the modern expression of the concrete structure, as the building mass steps back to form an adjacent outdoor plaza.

Walkability

The pedestrian corridor respects Hood River’s walkability and the building’s prime location in the heart of the town.

Warmth, Light, & Comfort

The loft-style units incorporate floor-to-ceiling windows that provide ample natural light and views of the neighborhood, the Gorge, and Mt. Adams. Cherry wood is used throughout the units, from custom-designed fireplaces to a built-in reading nook with a couch and shelves. Concrete slab floors feature radiant heating.

Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?
