Inspired by Holst’s ability to execute quality design on tight budgets and schedules, Marriott Global Project Development hired the firm to design the concept for the 6th generation of Courtyard hotels. Holst helped investigate the values of Courtyard’s brand, where they wanted to go in the future, and how the new Courtyard is a physical manifestation of Marriott’s vision. The redesign of their franchised hotel brand will set the direction for all future Courtyard Marriott developments.

Reorienting circulation

A central boardwalk acts as the main organizing element for the concept's circulation.


The boundaries between interior spaces and the central courtyard are minimized.
