Shannon Horton Receives Building Diversity Award

We are thrilled to announce that Shannon Horton has been honored with a Building Diversity Award by DJC Oregon! This award honors individuals who have been trailblazers for equality. Shannon’s dedicated efforts to community engagement on the East County Library project and her work creating equitable events for our office have been instrumental to our firm’s success.

Over the past year and a half, Shannon has been an exemplary Project Manager on the new East County Library located in Gresham, Oregon. The 95,000-square-foot destination library will have a major presence in its neighborhood. East County Library was funded by taxpayer dollars, and as such, engaging with citizens and neighbors was the highest priority from the outset. Shannon has been a driving force for our equitable public engagement process. To date, the team has engaged roughly 4,580 community members through tabling at community events, focus groups, online surveys, and community meetings. Since August 2022, our team has participated in or led 52 engagements, all aimed at understanding the wants and needs of the library’s future users. Shannon has been a leader in this process.

Within Holst, Shannon is a leader in our office community, planning many inclusive cultural, educational, and welcoming social events for our staff. Shannon spearheads our Culture Committee and facilitates so much interaction among our diverse staff. Her colleagues noted her leadership on events like Holstgiving (our annual Thanksgiving celebration), and numerous gatherings that enrich our office community. Her efforts have provided Holst staff a place to interact, bond, and deepen our connections with each other and our community.
