Since joining Holst in 2005, Cory has demonstrated a passion for creating beautiful spaces constructed of sustainable and healthy materials that are comfortable and efficient. Cory has been a key contributor to many projects of varying type, scale, and context. He excels at working with clients, builders, and consultants to achieve the best possible solutions to difficult technical and design problems.
One prominent example is his experience as a project architect on Karuna House, the first building in the world to achieve the trifecta of MINERGIE-P-ECO, Passive House PHIUS+, and LEED Platinum certifications. The interwoven technical demands of the varied certification agencies required that Cory facilitate communication between all parties to ensure compliance, while preserving the integrity of the design.
Cory is passionate about creating equitable and sustainable architecture. He has a special interest in the architect’s responsibility to combat climate change, and the importance of architectural detailing in supporting the beauty, performance, and durability of buildings. He is currently a consultant on the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law campus project in the Kingdom of Bhutan, where Holst is now designing the new law library building. On this new campus, the clients desire to incorporate high-performance building strategies to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort as a case study for future buildings in the Himalayan country.
