Hearth

2022 Merit Award Winner

A Modern Escape in Downtown Boise

Hearth is a groundbreaking 161-unit, mixed-use building that elevates the standard of living in downtown Boise. In conjunction with the City of Boise’s vision for a mixed-use district, Hearth includes apartment units in multiple configurations, including studios, one and two-bedroom, and live / work options in addition to ground-floor retail/restaurant space. The building’s “Z” shape pulls the building mass from the street while maximizing usable square footage inside. This also creates space for the fourth-floor courtyards, which enliven the streetscape. As the first Fitwel Certified building in Idaho, Hearth takes a multifaceted approach to positively influencing residents’ wellness, providing a rich pedestrian experience, as well as a high standard of healthy living and sustainability.

The design amplifies the outside, bringing it inside. It really creates a project that through its elegance and classic timelessness, addresses the important issue of housing shortage in Boise.

Seaside Civic & Convention Center

2022 Honor Award Winner

Enhanced Civic Hub in Seaside

The Seaside Civic & Convention Center renovation and expansion better connects the facility to its natural and urban context while improving its functionality, appeal, and visibility from downtown Seaside. Strategic design choices better integrate the building into the center of Seaside, supporting the City’s goal to attract new visitors for year-round activity and bolster the economic strength of the coastal town. The new layout is designed to support an array of activities, improve circulation throughout the building, and unite the individual spaces. A new pre-function space runs through the center of the building, providing a gathering place that connects the two main event spaces with the entries and exterior. The ground floor Necanicum Ballroom expands by 35% with additional column-free space to support larger, simultaneous events.

The visual transformation between the existing and the new is truly remarkable.

How do I become an architect? What is the difference between Architecture and Engineering? Can I job shadow an architect for a day? How do architects turn designs into buildings? Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?

Holst invites curious minds to ask questions about architecture.
