Partnering for Change
Since 2016, Holst has been committed to 1+, a program where firms dedicate at least 1% of their working hours to pro bono services. We believe that design can be a powerful tool for achieving social impact, and our desire to be a positive force in the community drives our work. Donating our services to nonprofits allows them to utilize their resources where they are most needed and provides us with a deeper understanding of issues in our community. This year, we partnered with four nonprofits in the greater Portland area, providing them with design services to explore and realize expansion opportunities.

Circus Project
The Circus Project is a Portland-based art center with outreach programs that support people facing barriers to arts participation. To prepare for a potential capital campaign, Holst developed a feasibility study for a new performance and education center; P&C Construction provided cost estimation. The new facility will allow for expanded course offerings, more performances, and collaboration with outside circus groups.

New Avenues Youth Opportunity Center
Working with New Avenues for Youth, Holst designed their new Youth Opportunity Center at the Rockwood Boys & Girls Club. The organization is dedicated to the prevention and intervention of youth houselessness. The new facility allows them to serve more children in East Multnomah County who are LGBTQ, experiencing housing instability or houselessness, in foster care, or involved in sex trafficking.

Project Lemonade
Project Lemonade supports foster youth by providing them with free back-to-school clothes. Currently an office and retail location, Holst provided planning and programming services for a consolidated space. With a clear detailing of their space requirements, Project Lemonade can find a new site that will help them realize their long-term goal of year-round service.

Fora Health
Holst is currently working with Fora Health to design and oversee the construction of their new treatment campus in east Portland, providing initial conceptual design services pro bono. The new campus will consolidate separate youth and adult facilities and expand services.
